The offshore field re-development, to produce 900,000 bpd Arabian heavy crude, 120 million cf/d of sour gas, 50,000 bpd of condensate and 950,000 bpd of produced water is southeast of Safaniya. The project will also see the construction of facilities for the reinjection of 1.75 million bpd of water.
The scope of works for the offshore development includes the construction of 27 man-made islands in the shallow waters, which will serve as platforms for wells at the field. The project will involve the supply and installation of 20 production and process platforms, subsea pipelines and tie-ins with existing offshore production facilities. Saudi Aramco is aiming for at least five new wells and the work-over of existing wells.
The main target is to increase capacity to 1.1 million bpd.
PACKAGE 1: Construction of a 41 km causeway, including 20 kms of laterals from onshore Manifa to the last production and drilling platform, a 2.4 km main bridge, eight culverts each 50 metres long and five short bridges each 150 metres long. It also includes the dredging of 27 drilling islands. The causeway will accommodate and provide access to drilling rigs to be installed in water depths of 30-40 metres. The facilities wil take three years to complete. ($1,000-1,200 million).
PACKAGE 2: Involves the fabrication and installation of 20 offshore drilling and processing platforms.
PACKAGE 3: Entails the construction of a 170 million cf/d onshore gas processing facility.
PACKAGE 4: Covers the construction of onshore gas-oil separation separation plants (GOSP\'s), crude stabilisers and separators.
PACKAGE 5: Construction of facilities for the reinjection of 1.75 million bpd/water.
PACKAGE 6: Covers the supply and installation of four main pipelines connecting Manifa to Juaymah, the Khursaniyah gas plant and Ras al-Zour. Also included is the construction of a terminal facility.
