Project Profile

Saudi Arabian Mining Company “Ma\'aden” and Sahara Petrochemicals have signed a joint venture agreement to establish a caustic soda and ethylene dichloride (EDC) plant, within the Sahara complex in Jubail Industrial City.

The US$750m project will produce 250,000 tonne per year of caustic soda and 300,000 toone per year of ethylene dichloride.

The two companies have also signed a deal to procure all the concentrated caustic soda to Ma\'aden to use it in the production of Alumina from its refinery in Ras Al Zur, located on the eastern coast of the Kingdom.

Ma\'aden will announce later the details of the project’s financing. The two partners announced last year that they received the approval of the Saudi Industrial Development Fund to provide $240m to finance the project.

The project will be owned on 50/50 basis between the two partners.
