Project Profile
Value: US$300 million
Location: Nasrabad salt structure in the centre of Iran
Start-up Year: 2015
The project will see the construction of a new underground gas storage project at the Nasrabad salt structure in the centre of Iran. The facility will be part of an underground network in the northern half of Iran, to store gas from fields in the south of the country. Nasrabad is 45 kilometres from the Qom-Kashan road, not far from Sarajeh, as well as the Yort-e Shah aquifer, where some advanced conversion work has been carried out. By 2013, NIGC completed 3D seismic studies of the salts around Nasrabad to ascertain the best plan for a 3-4 bcm storage tank. NIGC said the storage centre would help pump as much as 30 - 40 mcm of gas to Tehran, Ishfahan, Qom, Kashan, and Saveh. In 2016, NIGC completed an appraisal well intended to provide gas for the Nasrabad salt domes.
