The project will see the implementation of a gas flare recovery system at the Ruwais Industrial Complex, located 240 kilometres west of Abu Dhabi. The project looks to recover the previously flared gas streams at the Ruwais refinery, and the collected gas will then be sent to the fuel gas system in order to partially replace the natural gas used for energy applications.
In February 2011, Takreer changed the scope of the project to include a second refinery in Abu Dhabi.
