Project Profile
Value: US$120 Million
Location: Saudi Arabia
Capacity: 2,000 to 2,700 mtpa
Start-up Year: 2017
The SABIC - Carbon Fibre Plant is located Saudi Arabia. On 15 June 2011, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) had signed a technology agreement with Montefibre granting it, and its affiliates, an extensive international licence on carbon fibre technology developed by Montefibre. SABIC used the technology to build a carbon fibre plant in Saudi Arabia which enabled them to serve the demand for carbon fibre and composites in markets such as alternative energy, transportation and infrastructure. The project involves the construction of a carbon fibre plant with a total capacity of 2,000 to 2,700 metric tonnes per annum (mtpa). The project also includes the creation of a new carbon fibre product development centre and composite plastics application development capabilities at the SABIC Plastics Application Development Centre (SPADC) which is under construction at the Riyadh Techno Valley research complex at King Saud University. The plant is located near the 250,000 mtpa methyl methacrylate monomer plant.
