Project Profile

Value: $100 Million
Startup Year: 2010
Location: Oman

Discovery of a gas field in the Khorasan Razavi province in the northeast of oman known as Ufuq and Dafiq discoveries. In February 2010 Following an ambitious exploration programme in central Oman, PDO had a major oil discovery Al Ghubar South, close to the existing Al Ghubar and Qarn Alam fields. Four exploration and appraisal wells were drilled in 2009 to confirm the discovery, and further drilling to delineate further extensions of the field was planned during 2010.

Oil in place could be in excess of 1 billion barrels. During 2009, PDO made two more oil discoveries at Dafiq West and Anbar in the central region of the Sultanate. The Anbar discovery is close to the existing Sadad field, followed an extensive drilling campaign in which a total of 12 wells were drilled in a grid pattern.

The oil produced at Al Ghubar South is both heavy and light. PDO ran a production test in 2009 to ensure that the heavy oil in the reservoir could be produced using existing enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques.

The company has already created a development team to fast-track development at Al Ghubar South. PDO expected to have an initial field development plan in place within months.
