Project Profile
Value: US$200 million
Location: Southern Iraq
Start-up Year: 2012
Proven reserves: 2.2 billion barrels
Current production: 50,000 b/d
Subba and Luhais oil fields are located in Basra province, about 90 km west of Basra city. Subba lies north of Luhais and extends into Dhi Qar province. Luhais was discovered in the 1970s and was brought onstream for a few years prior to the Iran-Iraq war but remained shut-in from 1980 until 1999 before being brought back onstream. Subba produced briefly in the late 1980s but has been shut-in since 1991.
The Iraqi oil ministry has moved to develop the southern Subha-Luhais oil field, with proven reserves of 2.2 billion barrels, with an ongoing technical reservoir study and a planned field development contract, an oil ministry official and industry sources have said. Subba and Luhais are capable of pumping up to 240,000 barrels per day. Currently, Luhais has pilot production of around 50,000 b/d of crude oil.
