Project Profile

Value: US$2 billion
Location: Persian Gulf, Iran
Production: 114 mcm per day (57 mcm from each phase)
Start-up Year: End of 2012

The 13 and 14 phases of the South Pars development project are being instituted to provide Persian LNG with sour feed gas. The upstream portion of these phases includes the construction and installation of four offshore production platforms, as well as the drilling and hook-up of 44 wells. The cost of these two phases will be US$2 billion and they are expected to start production in 2012. Phase 13 was reportely awarded to a consortium of Mapna, Sadra and Petro Pidar. Sadra constructed 4 platforms, each used to produce 500 MSCFPD and two 32” pipelines to transfer gas from the main platforms to the onshore processing unit, totaling 260km together with two 4.5” pipelines for MEG injection. Phase 14 was awarded to the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO), National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) and Iran Offshore Engineering Construction Company (IOEC) companies.

Phase 13

The production capacity from the reservoir is 2BSCFPD, while there are four offshore platforms each producing 500 MSCFPD. There are two 32” pipelines transferring gas from the main platforms to onshore processing units, 180km long in all, together with two 4.5” lines used for MEG injection, while there are two infield pipelines to transfer gas from satellite platforms to the outlets of the main platforms, totaling 14km along with two 4.5” pipelines for MEG injection. Gas and input liquids processed in the onshore processing unit, includes the products: 50 MSCMPD of refined gas, 1.1 MT/year of liquefied gas for export, 80 thousand barrels/day of gas condensates for export and 1 MT/year of Ethane gas to feed the petrochemical plants. Phase 13 of South Pars is expected to start producing gas in 2016. Phase 13 of South Pars is under development for the production of 50 mcm/d of sweet natural gas, 80,000 b/d of gas condensate, 400 tons a day of sulfur, 1.1 million tons a year of liquefied gas and 1 million tons a year of ethane for feeding petrochemical plants.

Phase 14

The production capacity from the reservoir is 2BSCFPD, while there are four offshore platforms each producing 500 MSCFPD. There are two 32” pipelines transferring gas from the main platforms to onshore processing units, 260km long in all, together with two 4.5” lines used for MEG injection, while there are two infield pipelines to transfer gas from satellite platforms to the outlets of the main platforms, totaling 18km along with two 4.5” pipelines for MEG injection. Gas and input liquids processed in the onshore processing unit, includes the products: 50 MSCMPD of refined gas, 1.1 MT/year of liquefied gas for export, 77 thousand barrels/day of gas condensates for export and 1 MT/year of Ethane gas to feed the petrochemical plants.
