Project Profile

Value: US$262 million
Location: 150 miles northeast of Basra in Khuzestan Province, 90 km north of Ahwaz
Production: 20,000 bpd

CNPC became the operator of the smaller, aging Masjed-i-Suleiman (MIS) field that will produce 20,000 bpd.

MIS is one of several large oil fields producing from Oligocene Asmari fractured carbonates. The field is 30 km long and 7 km wide.

NESCO has recently been awarded the Masjid Suleiman Field Development Project (MIS) in partnership with CNPC. The project is estimated at US$262 million. The project is structured on a buy-back basis.

The Masjid-I-Suleiman is a fractured Asmari carbonate reservoir approximately 30 km long and seven km wide, an asymmetrical structure with three culminations, the smallest in the Naftak area, with numerous transverse faults and related fractures that act as conduits for tertiary migration of oil to the surface.

The Asmari formation in this field is divided into three (Upper, Middle and Lower) parts. The Upper and Middle Asmari are each subdivided into three zones, named 1 to 6 from bottom to top. The Lower Asmari overlies the Pabdeh formation and includes Marl and Marly Limestone.
