Project Profile
Value: US$2,000 million
Location: Wasit Province, Badra, Iraq
Production: 67,000 b/d (July 2016)
Start-up Year: August 2014
The Badra Oil field was discovered in 1979. The field holds about 150 million barrels of oil reserves. Its projected output is about 170,000 barrels per day.The oil field is situated in Wasit governorate, 160 kilometres southeast of Baghdad city, and extends across the border with Iran. The company is currently building the field infrastructure required to begin production at the field. and a central gathering facility with a total capacity of 170,000 bpd. The first line of the central gathering facility, which has a capacity of 60,000 bpd will be commissionsed in 2013. The site of a gas collection and processing facility with a capacity of about 1.5 billion cubic metres a year has also been prepared for construction. A 165 km long oil pipeline is being laid from the Badra field to the Garraf pipeline tie-in point. The connection to the oil trunk pipeline system will take place near the city of Nasiriyah.
In June 2015, a fourth well was brought on production at Badra field in eastern Iraq, bringing total field output to 28,000 b/d. The P-05 well almost doubled field production. Another well, P-04, is being brought online with an expected flow rate of 10,000 b/d. Elsewhere in the field, geological and engineering operations are scheduled for the P-08 and BD-04 wells with no impact anticipated on production volumes. Drilling is under way at two other wells and another is expected to start soon. By yearend, the number of drilling rigs at Badra is expected to increase to seven from three. The field has been in commercial production since August 2014. Oil production from Badra field reached 45,000 b/d as a sixth well, the P-13, is producing 10,000 b/d In September 2015. Oil production was 17,000 b/d in early 2015.
