The Safah field is located 415 kilometres west of Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman. The field produces 42 degrees API oil from a lime mudstone of the Upper Shuaiba Formation, Lower Cretaceous age. The average rock permeability is about 5 millidarcies and the average porosity is 22%. The concession holders are Occidental (operator) and Neste Oy (the Finnish national oil company).
The field production started in February 1984.
The Oman Construction Company, L.L.C. (TOCO), a Willbros’ subsidiary, provided turnkey EPC services for expansion of gasinjection facilities at Safah Field in Oman. Phase I of the project included facilities for 120 MMscfd of gas dehydration; 60 MMscfd of gas compression; injection gas metering; 800 kW of electrical generation; addition of a 1,100-hp compressor unit; conversion of three gas-lift reciprocating compressors; and associated support utilities with required buildings.
Phase II included installing a companion turbine/compressor to increase gas injection to 120 MMscfd in additional producing fields. This installation included an inlet filter separator, first stage suction scrubber, interstage scrubber, interconnecting piping, and associated support utilities with required buildings.
