Location: 340 km east of Sana\'a, Yemen
Area: 5,000 sq. km
Block 7 is an onshore exploration permit covering an area of 5,000 sq kms located approx. 340km east of Sana\'a, the capital of Yemen. The block contains the Al Meashar oil discovery as well as an inventory of leads and prospects defined by 2D and 3D seismic surveys with significant oil potential.
Oil Search has interests in Block 7, Al Barqa in Yemen.
In 2010, Al Meashar-1 in Block 7 discovered oil in the fractured basement reservoir. The Al Meashar discovery was appraised in late 2010/early 2011 by the Al Meashar-2 well. The wells have been suspended for further evaluation.
Block 7 has been in force majeure since mid-2011 due to the \"Arab Spring\" uprising. The company\'s local Yemeni staff have maintained a presence in the Yemen office despite difficult and distressing times.The political situation in Yemen is being closely monitored, to assess when it may be possible to resume field operations.
