Location: Kurdish region, Iraq
Area: 705 sq. km (Harir block) and 424 sq. km (Safen block)
Drilling of the first exploration well on the Harir block commenced on July 30 2012, while the first exploration well on the Safen block is planned for the first half of 2013. A 2-D seismic program on both blocks was completed by the end of the third quarter of 2012. Marathon Oil had net proved reserves of 1.8 billion barrels of oil equivalent at the end of 2011.
Mirawa-1 discovery in Harir block (November, 2013) - potential producer
The Mirawa-1 well (4,267 m TD) encountered oil and gas shows in Jurassic and Triassic carbonate reservoirs (39º – 45º API).
Jisik Discovery in Harir Block (December, 2014) - potential producer
Jisik-1 exploration well (4,572 m TD) discovered multiple stacked oil and natural gas producing zones (43º API) in Jurassic and Triassic carbonate reservoirs. Flow rates are 6,100 bpd, and 10-15 million cubic feet (283,000-425,000 cubic metres) per day.
