Project Profile
Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE
Value: US$683 million
Area: ~1,200 sq km
Production: 420,000 bpd, 450,000 bpd (by 2020)
Abu Dhabi Company for onshore Oil Operations (ADCO) Bab field is located in the onshore area of Abu Dhabi Emirates, about 150 Km to southwest of Abu Dhabi city. It is the largest onshore field in Abu Dhabi based on its area. The field covers approximately 1,200 sq. km. The Bab field, once developed, will produce 500 million-800 million cubic feet of gas per day.
The land type surrounding Bab is generally categorised as flat terrain with sand plains and dunes, some of which have gravel surfaces. Near the area's main road, leading to Medinat Zayed, new artificial forest belts are planted. The vast majority of land is in natural condition, with some areas used for oil and gas installations. The multiple reservoirs in Bab contain a variety of hydrocarbon accumulations. Some reservoirs contains only oil or gas, while many are characterised by oil rims capped by large gas caps. Hence, Bab is considered as both oil field and a gas field critical to the future of Abu Dhabi.
In addition to oil production, Bab operates and maintains gas wells on behalf of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. The gas produced from these wells are collected and transported via trunklines to ADNOC Gas processing plant. Bab oil production capacity represents just under a quarter of ADCOs total capacity while its contribution to Gas production represents some 75% of total ADCO associated and non-associated gas.
