Project Profile
Value: US$400 million
Start-up Year: 2013
Purified Terephtalic Acid (PTA): 400,000 tonne/year
Polyethylene Teraphthalate (PET): 420,000 tonne/year
Location: Yanbu, Al Madinah Province
The project will see the expansion of a PET plant, increasing capacity from 330,000 tpa to 750,000 tpa by converting all polymer lines to produce bottle-grade chips. The aromatics production will increase from 560,000 tpa to 1.18 million tpa. There will also be two new solid-state polymerisation units installed to produce bottle-grade chips from debottlenecked polymer lines.
The project will also include a 350,000-tonne-a-year (t/y) purified terepthalic acid (PTA) plant, which will act as an expansion of an existing 350,000 t/y production unit at Ibn Rushd’s Yanbu complex.
