The Shaybah oil field is located in one of the most remote areas in Saudi Arabia. It is situated in an isolated desert area known as the Rub’ al-Khali (The Empty Quarter). Through the years, Shaybah has undergone various expansions. An upgrade completed in June 2009 boosted its crude capacity from 500,000 b/d to its current capacity.
Shaybah Oil Field is a super-giant oil field located in Shaybah. It was discovered in 1998 and developed by Saudi Aramco. The oil field is operated and owned by Saudi Aramco. The total proven reserves of the Shaybah oil field are around 14 billion barrels (1.9×109tonnes), and production is centered around 1,000,000 barrels per day (160,000 m3/d).
