When appraised by Aramco in the 1970s, the field was assessed to have 170 billion barrels of oil in place (BOIP), with around 60 billion BOIP recoverable.
In 2010, more than 65 billion BOIP had been produced from the field since 1951, and that the total reserves of the field had originally exceeded 100 billion BOIP.
