Project Profile
Investment: US$470 million
Location: Saint Nazaire, France
Capacity: 11.5 million tonnes/annum
Start-up: 2019
Donges Refinery is located near Saint Nazaire, France. It is the second largest refinery in France. The refinery has a capacity of 11.5 million tonnes/annum. Total has invested US$470 million to upgrade its Donges refinery to capture profitable new markets with low-sulfur fuels to meet new European Union (EU) specifications. The project entailed building a new desulfurisation unit for intermediate feedstock, which is used to produce low-sulfur fuels. Additionally, Total also constructed a new steam methane reformer (SMR) to produce the hydrogen needed for the desulfurisation unit. SMR was built by a contractor under a long-term hydrogen supply contract with the refinery. Information on the contractor was not disclosed. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2019.
