The pipeline will pump gas from Austria\'s Haidach storage facility into Germany. The project will begin from Burghausen and will run 86.5 km long high-pressure gas pipeline through the Bavarian districts of Altotting, Muhldorf, ending in Finsing.
The main purpose of the MONACO gas transmission is to maintain the security of supply for Bavaria and Germany as well as to increase the flexibility of gas supply in the German natural gas transport network.

bayerngas GmbH, holds 59.1% of the shares in bayernets GmbH, Stadtwerke München GmbH have acquired 32.4% and Stadtwerke Augsburg Holding GmbH has 8.5%.
