The first production unit of the new refinery called Slovnaft was put into operation in 1957. In the 60s, Slovnaft changed from a refining plant into a refining and petrochemical combine. Then in 1991 the hydrocracking production unit was launched and in 1998 a Continuous Catalyst Regeneration Reformer (CCR) was introduced to the project. Then in 1999 the HDS & Hydrogen units were commissioned. It wasn’t until 2000 when MOL became a major shareholder in the project. In 2004 a new production unit for desulphurization of diesel was commissioned at the facility. The project is now a medium sized high complexity refinery that produces Euro V standard fuels. It processes mainly Russian crude from Friendship Crude Pipeline.
