Project Profile

Value: US$30 Million
Location: Middlesbrough, UK
Capacity: 11.3 million m3 per day
Start-up Year: February 2007

Teeside LNG import facility is the world’s first dockside floating regasification facility located near Middlesbrough in the United Kingdom. The Teesside terminal was placed in service in February 2007 by Excelerate Energy with a maximum delivery capability of 11.3 million m3 per day, equivalent to approximately 3% of peak day UK demand. This project was the first of its kind and had been developed from inception to operation in only 15 months. Excelerate specially designed LNG vessels which regasify the LNG before delivering directly into the pipeline grid, without the need for traditional onshore LNG storage tanks. The facility involved a dedicated jetty capable of accommodating up to 150,900 m3 FSRUs. The purpose of Teesside terminal was to deliver regassified Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) onto the National Transmission System (NTS). The facility was also capable of blending the delivered gas with nitrogen to ensure the specification remains within the tight tolerance limits of the NTS. All operational and maintenance requirements of the high pressure gas and blending system from the loading arm connection point through to the network entry point were managed and maintained by the px group under a long term O&M contract with Seal Sands Gas Transportation Ltd, a subsidiary company of Excelerate Energy. The project was decommissioned in 2015 after the facility came to the end of its commercially viable life.
