Bulgaria and Serbia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in January 2017 for the construction of a pipeline that will connect their gas networks. A preliminary agreement for the construction of the pipeline was signed first in 2010 and a feasibility study was completed in January 2013. The project aims to expand gas supply in Southeastern Europe (SEE) and reduce both countries\' reliance on Russian gas supply.

The pipeline will have reverse flow with capacity to ship 1-1.8 bcm per year from Bulgaria to Serbia and 150 mcm per year from Serbia to Bulgaria.

Under the EU\'s Innovation and Competitiveness programme, Bulgaria has allocated US$48 million for its 62-km section. The Serbian section of the pipeline, which is estimated to cost approximately US$65 million, will be also funded by the EU.
