Project Profile

Value: US$414 million (NOK 3.5 billion)
Location: 300 km from shore in the North Sea, Norway
Recoverable reserves: 56.4 MMboe
Area: 2,000 km2
Water Depth: 1,300 m
Start-up Year: 4Q 2019

The Utgard Field is located immediately south of the Aasta Hansteen (previously known as Luva) giant gas field in the Vøring Basin, in the Norwegian Sea. A 3D survey was done to give valuable insight into the geology and hydrocarbon prospectivity of the area. The targets within the Utgard 3D survey coverage were expected to be comparable to the ones in the Nyk High. Fault blocks within the Cretaceous section provide significant potential for hydrocarbon trapping. Volcanic intrusions are present in the area and they have been observed on seismic data within the Upper Cretaceous intervals. The CGG Utgard 3D survey was acquired in 2003 and covered approximately 2,000 km2 to the south of the Aasta Hansteen and Haklang gas discoveries. The Utgard Field will be one of the tie-in fields located in the Sliepner area. The start-up of the processing of Utgard well stream to Sleipner is planned for 2020.

The field is made up of two licences; The UK Continental Shelf licence P312 and the Norwegian Continental Shelf licence PL046. Statoil previously acquired stakes in P312 from First Oil in October 2015 and Talisman Sinopec in December 2015. Statoil is the operator in PL046 with a 62% holding. However, Statoil and JX Nippon completed their 2016 transaction whereby Statoil acquired JX Nippon’s 45% equity share in, and operator-ship of, the UK licence for the Utgard field. Therefore, Statoil now holds 100% interest in the Utgard project.

Operators:

P.312 Block 16/18a (U.K.) - Statoil: Operator with 100% interest

PL046 E/F Block 15/8 (Norway)

Statoil Petroleum AS: Operator with 62.0% interest
Lotos Exploration and Production Norge AS: 28.0% interest
KUFPEC: 10.0% interest

Contractors:

Aker Solutions: Contracted to supply umbilicals

Ocean Installer: Subsea installations and tie-in operations

Wood Group: FEED support on the Utgard field development, in the North Sea, to support engineering on the pipeline system that will tieback the planned subsea template to the Sleipner T platform and performed lifetime extension studies to the pipeline system in the Gullfaks field. (April 2016)
- The Utgard tie-back consists of a 21km long pipe-in-pipe production pipeline from the 4-slot template at Utgard to the Sleipner T platform and an integrated service umbilical (ISU) from the Sleipner A. (August, 2016)

Aker Solutions: The work involves preliminary engineering for platform modifications at Sleipner to tie in the Utgard subsea field.
- Engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) services to enable a tie-in of the Utgard gas and condensate field to the Sleipner facilities. (September, 2016)

OneSubsea: Awarded an EPC contract by Statoil to supply the subsea production system for the Utgard gas and condensate discovery in the North Sea. The scope of the contract includes a subsea template manifold system, two subsea wellheads and vertical monobore subsea trees, production control system, and associated intervention and workover tooling. (Jan, 2017)
