Project Profile
Location: between Frigg gas field to the east and the Bentley field to the west, UKCS
Prospects: Chadwick, Cartwright, Clement and Camm
Relinquishment date: 31st December 2016
License P.1979 is an area that contains Blocks 9/4a, 9/8b and 9/9h in the UKCS. This Traditional licence is located between the Eocene Frigg gas field to the east and the Palaeocene Bentley heavy oil field to the west. A number of Palaeocene and Eocene amplitude supported prospects have been identified down-dip within the South Viking Graben. Light oil is expected at these locations due to their depth of burial. In 2016, Azinor Catalyst signed an agreement with Xcite Energy Resources to acquire a 40% working interest in License P.1979. Under the terms of the agreement, Catalyst will undertake a technical evaluation of the license area to more accurately delineate and appraise the prospects identified by Xcite Energy. The work programme consists of obtaining new seismic data and undertaking additional geotechnical studies. Once the work is completed it is likely that both Xcite and Azinor Catalyst will be seeking partners to join in the drilling of an exploration well to this prospectivity.
Operators:
