Project Profile
Location: P.1989 licence, Moray Firth, Scotland
Reserves: 62 million barrels of oil and 252 mcm of gas
Drilling Start-up: 2017
Blocks 14/11, 14/12 & 14/16 have been awarded as a traditional licence in the 27th Licensing Round. The blocks are located in the North West Witch Ground Graben in the Moray Firth. Prospect activity has been identified at Early Cretaceous level and it is planned to acquire a 3D seismic survey within the first two years of the licence. This Traditional licence is located in the Jura Sub-Basin adjacent to the Lower Cretaceous Athena oil field. A number of prospects and leads have been identified on the licence with the main focus being on the Lower Cretaceous ‘Homer’ oil prospect. This large combination structural stratigraphic trap comprises deep-water mass flow sands of the Scapa Formation and has an associated direct hydrocarbon indicator.
The work programme consists of obtaining new seismic data and undertaking studies, much of which has now been completed. Given Azinor Catalyst’s high working interest, the company is seeking partners to join it in the drilling of an exploration well to tests this prospectivity. In January 2016 and under the terms of the SPA, Azinor Catalyst has agreed to acquire 100% of the Licence from both Trap and Noreco.
