The Tambar Field is located 16 kilometres South East of Ula in 68 metres water depth. It is a normally unmanned wellhead platform, but can sleep 12 people. The production is piped to Ula for processing and export. The gas is injected in the Ula reservoir while the oil is exported via Ekofisk to Teesside. The 1200 tonnes Tambar tripod jacket and the 900 tonnes deck were both built at Kvaerner\'s yard in Egersund while the Tambar-Ula pipeline was built by CSO in Orkanger. Novelties of the platform design include power support through an electric cable from Ula, allowing cost effective and more efficient power than by installing turbines on the platform itself. In 2007 an oil discovery was made in the Tambar East reservoir (block 2/1 - prod. licence 300) which has since been in production. Tambar has a multiphase pump to reduce back pressure from the wellhead to the reservoir and improve oil recovery levels. During 2014 high regularity was maintained on the multiphase pump. This combined with good well deliveries contributed to good production from the field. Tambar Oil and Gas Field was discovered in 1983 and in 2001 the oil field started producing. The reservoir consists of Upper Jurassic sandstones of the Ula Formation, deposited in a shallow marine environment. The reservoir lies at a depth of 4 100 - 4 200 metres and the reservoir characteristics are generally very good.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has given the green light to BP to use the platform on the Tambar field in the North Sea offshore Norway until January 1, 2022. (July, 2016)

DONG E&P Norge divested its ownership shares to Faroe Petroleum Norge. Transfer of ownership to Faroe is subject to approval by Norwegian authorities and is expected to complete during the later part of 2016. (July, 2016)
