This traditional licence is located north and adjacent to the world class Britannia field and was awarded in 2014. The primary focus on the block is the Lower Cretaceous Britannia Sandstone Formation ‘Five Star’ prospect. This large stratigraphic trap represents an extension to the Britannia field reservoir sands to the north and west of the field with pinch-out of sands confirmed to the north by numerous well penetrations.
The committed work programme comprises obtaining and reprocessing seismic data and undertaking additional geotechnical studies focused on establishing a robust sand indicator over the licence area. Once this work has been completed it is likely that the operator will be seeking partners to join in the drilling of an exploration well on the Five Star prospect. An exploration well is planned to target the Britannia Sandstone Formation of the ‘Five Star’ prospect to a depth of 4,050 metre TVDSS. Azinor Catalyst is looking for a carry on an exploration well in return for a significant portion of its interest in Licence P2162.
