Project Profile
Value: Undisclosed
Location: Onshore Rukwa North basin and Rukwa South basin
Area: 18,920 square kilometres
Start-up Year: -
Reserves: 200 million barrels (mean oil resource, Rukwa-A)
The Rukwa PSA covers an area of 18,920 square kilometres and has been split into two separate areas, Rukwa North basin and Rukwa South basin. The Rukwa Rift basin was less than 100 kilometres from the railhead at Mbeya and it could consider either rail export to Dar es Salaam or export by pipeline depending on exploration success.
After reprocessing 2,300 km of legacy 2D seismic data, Heritage identified several prospects in Rukwa South with geological analogies to the Kingfisher discovery in Uganda. One of these prospects is drill ready, the Rukwa-A prospect, which contains an estimated 200 million barrels of mean oil resources. Heritage then surrendered the North Rukwa licence because it lacked the presence of oil bearing substructures, with the area’s prospectivity and potential source kitchen located in Rukwa South.
