Statoil is the operator of production licence 218 with an ownership interest of 51%. The other licensees are Wintershall Norge AS (24%), OMV Norge AS (15%) and ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS (10%). The area in this licence consists of part of block 6706/12 and part of block 6707/10. The 6706/12-2 well will be drilled about six kilometres northwest of the Aasta Hansteen field. Production licence 218 was awarded on 2 February 15 1996 (the 15th licensing round on the Norwegian shelf). 6706/12-2 is the fifth well drilled in the licence. The permit is contingent upon the operator having secured all other permits and consents required by other authorities before the drilling starts.
Haklang discovery
Haklang lies in 4,000 feet of water in PL218. Wells 6707/10-2S and 2A were drilled by the Transocea Leader (mid-water semisub) to test the Late Cretaceous age prospect. Well 6707/10-2S encountered a 416-foot gas column.
