Project Profile
Location: Owambo Basin, northern part of the country near the border with Angola, Namibia
Area: Approximately 18,900 square kilometres
Start-up Year: - 2014
The onshore Blocks awarded to the Frontier, covering approximately 18,900 square kilometres, are located in the Owambo Basin in the northern part of the country near the border with Angola. The results of the soil gas survey conducted in Blocks 1717 and 1817, located in the Owambo Basin during 2013 confirmed the presence of one or more oil generating source rocks within the license area. These results have been integrated with a recently completed study to determine the thickness of sediments within the license and enabled Frontier Resources to further focus on areas that appear to be most promising for the accumulation and trapping of hydrocarbons.
Operator:
Frontier Resources International Plc: Operator with 90% interest
Namibian National Oil Company: 10% carried interest
Contractors:
Teledyne Geophysical: Recording sesimic data
Earthfield Technology: Contract to undertake a study to evaluate the depth to magnetic basement of aeromagnetic data purchased from the Geological Survey of Namibia for Blocks 1717 and 1817
Pioneer Minerals: Provision of assistance to the operator in in-field reconnaissance survey and plans to begin acquiring and analysing additional soil gas samples over these prioritised areas. These new soil gas data will be used to further assist in delineating potential oil-prone areas while the Company waits for a seismic crew to become available.
