Det Norske Oljeselskap has been given the green light by Norway’s safety agency to drill an exploration well at the Heimdalshoe prospect, with work scheduled to kick off on July 2014. The independent will use jack-up Maersk Giant to sink the 2/9-5S well in its operated production licence 494 in the southern North Sea. The prospect is located in 65 metres of water, about 34 kilometres west of the Valhall field, with drilling estimated to take between 60 and 125 days contingent on a discovery. The well is targeting hydrocarbon potential in a primary Upper Jurassic target with a prognosed total vertical depth of up to 3542 metres.
