The 1,690 square kilometre area replaces the previous Nyuni-East Songo-Songo agreement, encompassing the previous territory plus four new blocks covering 338 square kilometres to the north. The Nyuni-1 well was drilled and suspended for re-entry in 2004 following drilling difficulties, untested gas logged at the well as led Aminex to give a contingent P2 resource figure of 208Bcf. In 2015, Aminex started a re-tendering process for acquisition of 3D seismic over the deepwater part of the Nyuni Area PSA offshore Tanzania. In 2016 the work period of the Nyuni Area PSA was extended for a period of four years until at least 27th October 2019.
