Liberator discovery is located in license P1987 in the Moray Firth. Well 13/23d-8 was drilled by the Ocean Nomad (mid-water semisub) and discovered oil in Lower Cretaceous Captain reservoir sands. Additional evaluation is needed to determine the volume of oil in place. Dana Petroleum is the sole participant in the well which is located in license P1987. Water depth is approximately 116 m / 383 ft. Liberator lies between the Chevron-operated Captain oil field in the adjacent block to the west, 13/22, and to the east in block 13/24, lies the Blake field operated by BG with Talisman and Paladin Resources. In December 2016, i3 Energy Limited acquired the project from Dana petroleum.

The Liberator field is planned to be developed via 2 horizontal producers in Phase I, targeting the Main and Northwest culminations of the Phase I area. A separate potential future Phase II plan may include further development wells.
