Project Profile
Location: Lamu Basin, Offshore Kenya
Water depth: 200 - 1,900m
Area: 4,962.03 sq km (L10A), 5,585.35 sq km (L10B)
Start-up Year: -
A consortium including Pancontinental signed new Production Sharing Contracts over Blocks L10A and L10B offshore Kenya with the Government of Kenya on 16 May 2011.
A “fast track” exploration programme has been proposed. The new Blocks are in addition to Blocks L6 and L8 already held by Pancontinental. The geological setting is similar to L6 and L8 and also broadly similar to the setting of the new discoveries offshore Tanzania and Mozambique, on the same East African continental margin. The new areas more than double Pancontinental\'s gross acreage position offshore Kenya.
In 2014, the Sunbird-1 well found oil in L10A. The well demonstrated that there were hydrocarbons in the area but results were considered to be non-commercial.
Operators:
Shell: Operator with 100% interest (L10A) and 75% interest (L10B)
Pancontinental: 25% interest in L10B (to exit in 2015)
Contractors:
Odfjell drilling: Drilling contract
Fugro: Seeps survey campaign deploying Fugro Discovery vessel. (February, 2017)
