The Orca gas field was discovered in November 1993. It is mostly located in the UK sector of the North Sea in blocks 44/24a, 44/29b and 44/30a. A small portion of it lies in the Dutch sector in blocks D15b and D18a. The project was sanctioned in 2011.
The field is being developed with the new D18a-A normally unmanned platform tied-back to the former Minke Main\'s D15a-A platform. Installation of the platform was announced in July 2013.
The platform is designed to produce natural gas from up to six wells with a maximum capacity of 2.4 MMscfd. Orca is located mostly in the UK North Sea but the platform was installed just inside the Dutch sector in 40 m of water.
