Project Profile
Value: Undisclosed
Location: Aquitaine Basin, southwestern France
Reserves: unknown
Depth: 2000 and 3500 metres
Area: 35-square kilometre 3D seismic survey
Start-up Year: Unknown
Vermillion took full control of Vic Bilh in the Aquitaine Basin after purchasing Total\'s 73% stake in December 2011, which gave Vermillion 100% interest. Total said the field was maturing, without giving specifics. Production from Vic Bilh has since been disrupted on several occasions owing to a shut-in well. No yields were lifted from Vic Bilh for the entirety of 2014, before production restarted in the second quarter of 2015. In the fourth quarter of 2016, Vermillion said Vic Bilh had encountered well downtime and third party restrictions which impacted gas production.
DMT conducted a 35-square kilometre 3D seismic survey at the field over two months in the summer of 2013. Vermillion aimed to use seismic data to identify ways to enhance oil production at the field from depths of between 2,000 - 3,500 metres covered by 35 square km of the survey.
The survey used the so-called vibroseis method, in which sound waves produced by vibrators are sent into the subsoil and the reflected waves are recorded by geophones at the surface. Underground geological structures can then be determined based on the time delay of the \"echoes\" produced.
