OMV is gearing up to start drilling In July 2013 at the Wisting prospect in the Barents Sea after gaining the final clearance from Norway’s safety authority. The explorer intends to use Ocean Rig semi-submersible Leiv Eiriksson to drill a pair of wells - 7324/7-1 S and 7324/8-1 - in a water depth of between 391 and 440 metres in its operated production licence 537. The drilling work in water depth of around 400 metres of water is estimated to take 65 days if both wells come up dry, or 75 days in the event of a discovery. OMV operates the licence with a 25% stake with partners Idemitsu, Petoro and Tullow Oil each on 20% and Statoil on 15%.
Statoil is acquiring an increased Wisting share through the acquisition of Tullow Oil’s ownership. Through this transaction Statoil becomes the biggest equity holder in the Wisting discovery with a 35% stake. (September, 2016)
