Licence L016 (L016 Kúlubøkan), comprises Blocks 6202/6a,7,8,9,10a,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,21a,22a and 6203/14a,15a,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24a,25a. ExxonMobil has acquired a 6% interest in Licence L016 from Atlantic Petroleum. The revised ownership interests in the Licence are Statoil Færøyene (the operator of the Licence) 40%, DONG Energy Føroyar 30%, ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Faroe Islands 26% and Atlantic Petroleum 4%. The Licence was granted in the Third Licensing Round in 2008. The Licence covers an area of 3,870 km2.
Atlantic Petroleum was awarded Licence L016 in the 3rd Faroese Licensing Round in December 2008. The licence is a large exploration area in the north-eastern part of the Faroese licensed area. It contains a large four-way dip structure called Kúlubøkan, with potential at various stratigraphic levels. Seismic data was acquired on the acreage during the first six months of 2009. The data was analysed and confirmed the structure. A 3D seismic survey was acquired during 2012 to further the understanding of the structure.
