Project Profile
Value: US$3.6 billion
Location: Mediterranean Sea, Block 12, Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)
Gas reserves: 4.5 tcf (127 bcm)
FPSO Capacity: approximately 800 MMcf/d
Water depth: 5,540 ft (1,689 m)
Discovery year: December 2011
The Aphrodite gas field is located in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Cyprus in Block 12. Drilled by the Noble Homer Ferrington (DW semisub), the Cyprus A-1 well encountered about 310 ft (94 m) of net natural gas pay in multiple high-quality Miocene sand intervals. The well reached a depth of 19,225 ft (5,860 m) in a water depth of 5,540 ft (1,689 m). Results from drilling, formation logs and initial evaluation work indicate an estimated gross resource range of 5 to 8 Tcf, with a gross mean of 7 Tcf.
In June 2015, the Aphrodite natural gas field off Cyprus was announced commercially viable and plans call for producing 8 billion cubic metres (bcm) a year and construction of a pipeline to Egypt. Delek drafted, preliminary plan for Aphrodite included the establishment of a FPSO with an estimated initial production capacity of approximately of 800 MMcf/d. Operator Noble Energy was considering a plan that included gas exports to Egypt.
