Project Profile

Value: Undisclosed
Location: Blocks 44/4, 44/5 (part), 44/9, 44/10, 44/14, 44/15, adjacent to the Skellig Block, Porcupine Basin, offshore Ireland
Area: 1,409 square kilometres

The license lies adjacent to the Skellig Block. Antrim was awarded the Frontier Licence Option by the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources of Ireland, under the Irish 2011 Atlantic Margin Licensing Round on October 17, 2011. The Licence option area covers Blocks 44/4, 44/5 (part), 44/9, 44/10, 44/14, 44/15, an area of approximately 1,409 square kilometres located in the Porcupine Basin situated approximately 110 km off the SW coast of Ireland. The option allows Antrim two years to qualify the blocks for a full Exploration Licence. The Porcupine Basin has large areas of potentially mature Jurassic oil source rocks and significant potential for Jurassic, Lower Cretaceous and Upper Cretaceous petroleum reservoirs in seismically defined but untested tilted fault blocks.

In 2016 Antrim applied for a 100% operated interest in FEL 1/13, subject to government approval of the transfer of Kosmos’ interest. The license has a 15-year term comprising an initial three-year term followed by three four-year periods. The initial three-year term expires in early July 2016, but Antrim has submitted a request for a two-year extension pending agreement on an additional technical work program. Antrim hopes to attract a new partner and operator to complete any technical work during the extension, leading to a well commitment at the end of the revised first phase. Drilling costs have decreased substantially since 2013, when the license was first awarded.

In 2017 AzEire the new operator, was awarded an extension to its 100% working interest FEL 1/13 license in the Porcupine Basin, off Ireland. The consent for the extension was given by the Minister for Communications, Climate Actions and Environment. The extension is to the first phase of FEL 1/13 by two years to July 4, 2018, and a 2-year extension to the subsequent second, third, and fourth phases of the license to July 4, 2022, 2026, and 2030.
