Project Profile
Location: South of the Piper oil field, Outer Moray Firth area, UK
Block 15/17b, P.1994
Production: 6,500 bopd
Relinquishment year: February 2015
The Piper Isles consist of 4 undeveloped discoveries in the south of the Piper oil field in the UKCS and is set among numerous producing fields and pipelines in Block 15/17b.
The block which contains the Piper Isles discoveries: Hoy, Westray, Stroma and Egilsay, was awarded to Ithaca and partner in the 27th Licensing Round. Westray is the main discovery in which oil and some gas was recovered from both the Upper Jurassic Piper and Galley formations; the Piper formation tested (DST) approximately 6,500 bopd. The work programme commitment to the DECC requires the purchase and reprocessing of 200 sq km of 3-D depth migrated seismic data to improve the understanding of the geometry and associated faulting of the structure. Evaluation to date of the Westray discovery has shown that further appraisal drilling may be required in the east of the structure before any decision is made to develop the field. Under the terms of the License, a decision to drill or drop the block must be made within 2 years.
