Project Profile

Value: US$100 million
Location: 7th of November Block offshore Tunisia/Libya
Reserves: unknown
Depth: 76 metres
Start-up Year: 2015

The Zarat field is located in the 7th of November Block offshore Tunisia/Libya in 76 metres of water. In January 2011, it was announced that the Zarat North-1 appraisal well was vertically drilled to a depth of 9,728 feet (2,965 metres), encountering 240 net feet (73 net metres) of pay in the Eocene El Gueria limestone. The well was cased to total depth, and three production tests were performed through 2 1/4-inch diameter test string, from 42 feet to 177 feet (13 to 54 metres) above the water contact. All three tests flowed substantial quantities of gas and condensate, with test 2 observing sustained rates of about 750 barrels of condensate and 8 MMcf/d of natural gas, and peak condensate rates as high as 1,100 barrels per day.

Tests 1 and 3 observed sustained rates of about 600 barrels of condensate per day and gas ranging from 8 to 11.5 MMcf/d. All tests produced water, including both drilling fluids and formation water. Water decreased and oil increased throughout the tests, stated the operator. Data was gathered and is currently being assessed. The well confirms a significant extension to the previously-proven accumulation, and suggests that an economically-viable, near-term development is possible. Zarat North-1 was temporarily abandoned. Although there is no certainty that it will be commercially viable to produce any portion of the Zarat Discovered PIIP, Sonde management currently believes the accumulation, including both liquid and gas volumes, is feasible to develop. Sonde is currently engaged with Ryder Scott with the goal of developing a working reservoir model of Zarat Field.
