Phase one of investment and revamp of the Azzawiya involved the Installation of a new continuous catalytic reformer (CCR), naphtha and gas/oil hydrotreaters and an isomerisation unit, increasing the capacity of topping units through the addition of a pre-flash tower. Controls package: pneumatic control units, a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system and related facilities.
Phase two is expected to include a new residual catalytic cracker unit, methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) facilities and an additional sulphur treatment plant.
The investment and revamp of Azzawiya is to increase its production capacity which is about 120,000 barrels a day of crude currently. The Azzawiya largely supplies the local market and is the countries second largest refinery.
