Project Profile
Location: Afungi peninsula area of Cabo Delgado province
Value: US$26 billion
Area: 4,981 sq. km
Processing capacity: 12 million tonnes per year
Start-up Year: end of 2019
The proposed Mozambique Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) aims to gather process and export natural gas to be extracted in the Rovuma Basin. The LNG will be used as an energy source in Mozambique and other countries where it will be exported. More than 75 Tcf of recoverable natural gas resources have been discovered in Mozambique’s Offshore Area 1, which will be used to feed an initial two-train LNG development. The plant will be located in the Afungi peninsula area of Cabo Delgado province. The area is large enough to accommodate expansions, including multiple additional trains capable of producing approximately 50 million tonnes of LNG per annum in future years. The first phase is expected to be completed within 2021 with an annual output of 12 million tonnes.
