Project Profile

Location: Norwegian Sea
Water depth: 244 m
Licence status: Inactive since April 2013

Statoil has started drilling the Lovund prospect in the Norwegian Sea. The Norwegian state-owned explorer spudded the 6610/10-1 exploration well this with Seadrill semi-submersible West Alpha in its wholly owned and operated production licence 386 – the first to be drilled in the permit. The well will be drilled to a total depth of 2,932 metres in 244 metres of water, with an expected duration of 40 days. It is targeting oil of similar quality to that at the nearby producing Norne field and could potentially open up a new oil province in the event of a discovery.
