Project Profile
Location: Weald Basin, Surrey, PEDL143, UK
Reserves: 5.64 mmbo (mean gross recoverable)
Area: 5 sq km
In September 2015, planning permission was granted to drill a temporary exploratory borehole from the Bury Hill Wood site to a depth of 1,400m. In July 2018, the Environment Agency granted a permit to allow the drilling and testing of a single well for the purposes of oil and gas exploration, while the initial term of PEDL143 was extended by the Oil and Gas Authority to 30 September 2020.
Target reservoirs are the Upper and Lower Portland Sandstone, the full Kimmeridge tight oil section and the underlying Middle Jurassic Corallian Sandstone.
The Holmwood prospect located in the Weald Basin, Surrey, has mean gross recoverable resources of 5.64mmbo. The licence covers an area of 5 square kilometres and is a Jurassic carbonate and sandstone project with a relatively low geological risk profile. Holmwood is located in a conservation area and an unsuccessful application to construct a temporary exploration well on the site was made in 2011.
