Project Profile

Value: US$4.26 billion
Location: Kasimovskoye underground gas storage to the Voskresensk compressor station
Capacity: 95 Bcf/a of gas
Length: 204 kilometres

The Kasimovskoye UGS – Voskresensk CS pipeline, which began construction in 2005, connects the Kasimovskoye underground gas storage (UGS) to the Voskresensk compressor station (CS). The pipeline is owned by Gazprom Transgaz Moscow and Gazprom UGS and includes two compressor stations located at Tuma and Voskresensk and one gas metering station at Kasimov. The project includes a total of 108 rivers, streams, railways and highway crossings during construction and the trunkline will provide highly reliable and uninterrupted gas supply to Moscow and its suburbs. Commissioning occurred on the trunkline in October 2009. The pipeline length is 204 km, while the capacity is 95 Bcf/a of gas when fully operational. The Kasimovskoye UGS – Voskresensk CS gas pipeline aimed in securing maximum reliability of natural gas supplies to Moscow and the Moscow Oblast. The Kasimovskoye UGS – Voskresensk CS gas pipeline comprises two compressor stations (Tuma and Voskresensk) and one gas metering station (Kasimov). The gas pipeline was constructed between 2005 and 2009. During the construction process 16 underground crossings were made under rivers, 7 – under streams, 6 – under railways and 79 – under highways. The two compression stations are:

Voskresensk compressor station:

The Voskresensk CS was brought onstream in 1968 (compressor shop No.2 comprising six GT 750–6 gas pumping units (GPU) with the total capacity of 36 MW). The CS is the most important gas transmission hub within the Moscow region’s gas supply system. The amount of gas supplied to the CS may fluctuate three-fold. In summer the minimum gas flow averages some 40 million cubic metres per day, while in winter it may rise up to 120 million cubic metres per day.

Between 2006 and 2008 the station was retrofitted and a new shop (compressor shop No.1) with three Ural GPA-12 GPUs was commissioned as part of the Kasimovskoye UGS – Voskresensk CS gas pipeline construction, thus raising the aggregate GPU capacity to 72 MW.

Tuma compressor stations:

The Tuma CS was commissioned in 1998. Two GPA-Ts-16/55 and two GPA-12 PTs units were installed at the station. In 1997 due to the construction of a pipeline from the Kasimovskoye UGS to the Voskresensk CS, another two Ural GPA-12 units were installed. At present, the total capacity of the GPUs amounts to 80 MW.
