Project Profile
Location: Production License 533 in the Barents Sea
Recoverable reserves: 40-50 million barrels of oil equivalents (6-8 bcm)
Discovery year: August 2012
Eni Norge commenced drilling the Salina prospect (formerly Pulk) on 7th August 2012. The operator completed well 7220/10-1 (TD 2,371 m below sea level) down to Triassic rock in the Snadd formation, confirming gas presence in the Cretaceous Knurr formation and in the Jurassic Stø formation. The two condensate columns showed 300 ft (91m) net pay. The reservoir quality was confirmed through coring, logging and fluid sampling.
Det Norske announced the Salina Prospect discovery not commercially viable due to insufficient gas processing and transport infrastructure in the Barents Sea. However in 2017, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted Lundin Norway a drilling permit for appraisal well 7219/12-1 A in production licence PL 533. The well will be drilled about 24 km south of the discovery well 7220/10-1 and will test the Filicudi Prospect, which is expected to contain Jurassic sandstone reservoir similar to the Johan Castberg discovery.
