The Brugdan prospect lies in License 006, Block 6104/21, in the Faroe Islands about 38 miles (61 kilometres) from the nearest well discovery, the Rosebank/Lochnagar field. Statoil operates the license with a 50% stake; while ExxonMobil holds 49%; and Atlantic Petroleum holds the remaining 1%. Statoil explored the prospect in 2006 but abandoned the well prior to reaching the targeted depth due to mechanical issues. The operator is currently drilling a second well at its prospect, using the COSL Pioneer (mid-water semisub). Drilling operations are slated to take four to five months.
