Project Profile

Value: Undisclosed
Location: Blocks 6608/10 and 6608/11, Norwegian Sea
Reserves: 450 million barrels of oil and 15 billion m³ of gas
Start-up Year: 6 November 1997
Water Depth: 380 metres

Norne lies in a licence which was awarded in 1986, and embraces blocks 6608/10 and 6608/11. Located 85 kilometres from Heidrun, this area has a water depth of 380 metres. Production began from Norne in the Norwegian Sea on 6 November 1997. The field has been developed with a production and storage ship tied to subsea templates. Flexible risers carry the wellstream to the ship, which rotates around a cylindrical turret moored to the seabed.Risers and umbilicals are also connected to the turret. The ship has a processing plant on deck and storage tanks for stabilised oil. Gas has been exported from Norne since February 2001. It travels through the Norne Gas Export Pipeline and the Åsgard Transport trunkline via Kårstø north of Stavanger to continental Europe.

The field is roughly 1,400 kilometres from the landfall at Dornum in Germany Hydrocarbons in the Norne field are located in the Lower- to Middle-Jurassic sandstones, which are of a good reservoir quality. An oil zone 110m thick with an overlying gas cap make up the hydrocarbon column. The reservoir is a flat structure with the crest about 2,525m below mean sea level (MSL). Reserves in-place are estimated at one billion barrels (160 million m³) of oil and 29 billion m³ of free and associated gas. Reservoir simulations and risk analysis suggest that the most likely estimate for recoverable reserves is 450 million barrels of oil and 15 billion m³ of gas.
